The Edmund Velasco Quintet is an ensemble of experienced, professional musicians that plays a wide variety of styles to appeal to any audience. Although the group can perform from a large library of standard tunes, their specialty is in the writing and energy of the original music composed by the members of the ensemble specifically for the quintet. The Edmund Velasco Quintet currently performs more than fifty original works in such myriad styles as blues, bebop, post bop and even reggae. Their next CD, The Blues In Me on GemTone Records is set for national realse this February . The Quintet has performed all over L.A. and Orange Counties. Some of the more notable venues include M Bar and Grill in Downtown Long Beach, Steamers Cafe in Fullerton, the Jazz Bakery in Culver City, The Bonaventure Brewing Company and Catalina Bar & Grill. The group has also performed for arts and music festivals throughout California including The Day of Music in Long Beach and The San Jose Jazz Festival. The EVQ was recent;ly featured on a BET on JAZZ Prgogram. The individual members of the group are much sought after sidemen and have played with some of the industry's top names. Some of these include Mel Torme, Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman,Ernie Andrews, Tommy Newsome, Jack Sheldon, Eddie Daniels, Benny Maupin, Brian Setzer and many more. Together, the Edmund Velasco Quintet offers the traditional sounds of JAZZ with a fresh approach; new tunes with a more aggressive feel that still maintain the integrity of the music.
